FAQ's
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that come to us and we hope you may find the answers helpful:
Q: Are your horseback riding holidays in Andalucia open all year round ?
A: Yes
Q: Are your horse riding holidays always from Saturday to Saturday ?
A: Between March and November they are. We are only a small family run
business and we can only manage one fixed change-over day per week.
We also offer short break stays throughout the year, which you can find on
our Booking & Prices page.
Q: How many riders do you take each week ?
A: A maximum of six to provide a well managed and safe riding environment.
Q: Do I need to be an expert rider ?
A: No. You do need to be able to ride a horse in walk, trot and canter and do a rising
trot and be happy and confident on a horse and preferably be riding
regularly.
Q: Do I need to mount a horse unassisted ?
A: We do use a mounting block when we get on the horses at the ranch. This helps
and protects the horses backs. We do however hope that people can mount a horse without a mounting block as this reflects a degree of agility on the part of the rider and there may be circumstances in an outside environment where it is necessary to get on and off a horse in a situation where there are no aids to mounting !
Q: To come and enjoy a horse riding vacation with you is my weight and age
important ?
A: Your weight - yes, a maximum of 85 kilos per rider ! Your age - no, it is your
fitness that counts. If you have children who
would like to ride with us, we would still be interested to hear from you.
Q: Do you offer horse riding instruction or horse riding lessons in Spain at your
ranch ?
A: No, we are purely a hacking centre. However Giles and
Miranda both hold professional equine qualifications.
Q: Do you cater for veggies and vegans and other special diets ?
A: Yes. Just let us know.
Q: Do you offer horse riding without accommodation just for the day ?
A: No.
Q: Are you in the countryside or the town ?
A: We are within the town's boundaries but are situated in a private and tranquil
valley with the town only 10 minutes walk away. Coín is a town of approximately 25.000 people and is full of bars, restaurants, shops, banks and chemists etc. The countryside is right on our door step and within 5 minutes on a horse we are heading into the Andalucian countryside. We offer the best of both worlds !
Q: Do you ride on the beach ?
A: No. Riding on the beaches in Spain is prohibited by law all year round.
Q: What equipment do I need to bring ?
A: We recommend riding breeches with riding boots or half chaps and hard
hat..
Q: Do I need a hard hat ?
A: You ride here at your own risk, however, we always recommend you should wear
your own riding hat. Your hat should be CE marked and then you know it
meets the right standard.
Q: Do I need insurance ?
A: We provide public liability insurance for third parties….however it is a condition
of the holiday that you should provide yourself with your own personal riding and accident insurance. A policy for supervised hacking in Europe is normally sufficient. These can be purchased very cheaply and normally last a year. (They will most likely require you to be wearing a riding hat should you make a claim.) You are riding in the EU and are otherwise entitled to all the health care systems if you are an EU citizen.
Q: What kind of horse tack do your Spanish horses ride on ?
A: We use a mixture of traditional Andalucian tack (Vaquera), Spanish High school,
and general purpose English, and Barefoot treeless saddles.
Q: Do you provide rural tourism / outdoor activities for non-riding partners ?
A: We don't provide such activities ourselves, but there are a large number of options
available for a non-rider. For example, a large number of local golf courses, the
coastal resorts offering sea fishing, diving, sailing etc. The possibility of hiring
motor bikes, cycles, cars or enjoying a days shooting or walking…..even bird
watching. Excursions to Gibraltar, Seville, Ronda, Granada and even Morocco are
all very possible.
Q: Do we need to hire a car ?
A: We will pick you up and return you to the airport. The town is in walking distance.
A car will help you if you want to make excursions as mentioned above. Car hire is
available in Coín.
Q: Do we need to bring towels, linen or hairdryers?
A: We provide towels and linen, but you may find a large towel for your sunbed by the pool to be helpful. We also provide hairdryers.
Q: Do you have vacancies for employment?
A: No.
